Volgograd: hunger-striking women adopt resolution demanding to rehabilitate disabled children
The participants of the three-day hunger strike have adopted a resolution demanding to open a rehabilitation centre for disabled children and equip them with all the necessary rehabilitation and technical facilities.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the rally on May 6 mothers with many children complained that the authorities ignore their problems. Olga Cheburakova, one of the hunger-strikers, said that one of the mothers who had planned to take part in the hunger strike, refused to do it after certain officials began calling her and "collecting data about our children." "Other mothers stood to the end, although it was hard," she said.
Ekaterina Romashkina, a mother of two kids, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that parents have to rehabilitate their children in sanatoria at their own expense. "A 10-day course of proper rehabilitation costs, without travel expenses, 150,000 roubles," she said. "Almost all parents of children with disabilities are raising money in social networks. But in order to collect the necessary sum for rehabilitation, one should stay on the Internet for days – in this case, you have no time to care about your children."
In their turn, the press service of the Governor and the Government of the Volgograd Region have assured the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that all children with disabilities who apply to social service agencies, receive help in a timely manner and in full.
Earlier, rallies demanding to pay attention to the problems of large families were held in Volgograd on April 10 and 20. Their participants demanded to provide large families with land plots before June 1, 2013, and to set up a commission to solve their social problems by April 30. In his turn, Roman Grebennikov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Volgograd Region, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that "the problems are being addressed."
