Investigation of journalist Yarst's case completed in Sochi

The investigation of the criminal case opened against the journalist Nikolai Yarst, accused of illegal drug possession, is over and ready for approval by the public prosecutor and further sending to the court. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by the defendant's lawyer Alexander Popkov.

"On June 7, the investigator Liana Khachatryan announced the end of the investigation to Nikolai Yarst and his defence," Alexander Popkov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "According to the procedure, next week we'll start studying the case files; then, they will be handed over to the prosecutor for approval, and then to the court."

According to the lawyer, "the defence has a lot of questions to investigators, which will be asked during our acquaintance with the case files, according to the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure."

"The unprecedented for Sochi law enforcers speed of the inquiry id especially surprising. Within one week, they interviewed the witnesses, collected the proofs and conducted the examinations," said the lawyer. In his view, "the investigation has revealed as vivid interest in the case of the journalist."

Nikolai Yarst had said that he did not plead guilty and intended to contribute to the investigation, as he was personally interested to find out who had planted the drugs into his car.
