Diplomats studied the situation in Georgian villages, where the border on South Ossetia was shifted
During a one-day trip to the village of Didi, Khurvaleti, Gugutiantkari and Ditsi of the Shida Kartli Region of Georgia, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MFA) of Georgia, members of the Parliament, diplomatic missions and international organizations got acquainted with the problems of the residents of the villages separated by the new border.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27 Russian border guards, while stretching barbed wire near the village of Ditsi, Gori District, and the village Dvani, Kareli District, which are bordering on the Tskhinvali District, removed the border about 300 meters deep into the territory of the Shida Kartli Region. The observation mission of the European Union has arrived in the area in order to assess the circumstances of the conflict.
"Our goal was to acquaint the diplomatic corps with the situation that diplomats could personally ask people about their problems," said David Sujashvili, the head of the information-analytical department of the MFA of Georgia.
Officials of the Georgian party have noted that such visits are highly valued, as the participants have a chance to personally see the situation on the ground.
Grigory Karasin, an official of the Russia's MFA, said earlier in his comment on the situation that the works are carried out by Russian border guards in South Ossetia on the request of local authorities. The Georgia's MFA has expressed outrage, claiming a violation of the principle of the country's territorial integrity; however, Ivanishvili said that the problems should be addressed peacefully and in cooperation with the international community.
