Trial on fraud with Armenian Pension Fund money postponed due to illness of one of the defendants

The trial on the case of Vazgen Khachikyan, the former head of the welfare service, accused of a fraud with the money of the Pension Fund, has been rescheduled for June 13 due to the illness of one of the defendants – Ovannes Grigoryan, the former head of the division of payments of the above welfare service.

Judge Mkhitar Papoyan, who is running the trial, said that until the next session the court will ask the staff of the penal institution, where Grigoryan is kept, to provide information about the state of his health, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Vazgen Khachikyan was in custody since September 2012 on suspicion of a forgery and large-scale fraud and embezzlement of the money of the Pension Fund. Khachikyan denies his guilt in full.

As of December 26, 2012, 18 people were defendants in the Pension Fund case; in particular, apart from Khachikyan and Grigoryan, Ashot Abrahamyan, the head of the department of pension support, was arrested.

The court session was postponed for a week – till June 13.
