Residents of Gurdjaani who suffered from natural calamity held an action of protest

The people who suffered as a result of a heavy shower with hail in summer of 2012 demand to pay them compensations promised earlier.

The participants of an action held on January, 16, stated that they did not receive the compensations promised to them earlier. The protesters tried to block the traffic. After the police interfered they gave up their plans.

According to the participants of the action, they could not start the spring field works because of problems with getting these compensations.

“Let them (the authorities) tell as at last whether they are going to pay us the money or not”, “Georgia Online” quotes one of the peasants who participated in the action.

In connection with the necessity of elimination of the consequences of the disaster the Parliament of Georgia adopted amendments to the budget of 2012 stipulating allotment of 162,3 million lari ($ 99 million) on elimination of the aftermath of the natural calamity that destroyed 80 to 100 per cent of the harvest in the territory of 11 thousand hectares.
