In KBR, Beshkurov's defence challenges his arrest
On June 7, Buberd Maremov, the advocate of Islam Beshkurov, who was detained in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), filed an appeal to the Supreme Court of the KBR against the ruling of the District Court of Baksan to arrest his client for two months.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Islam Beshkurov was detained on June 2 in the village of Dugulubgey, Baksan District, in the course of a search for terrorist suspects in the area. Beshkurov denies his guilt believing he was persecuted on religious grounds. On June 4, the court of Baksan put him in custody for two months.
According to the advocate, the court failed to consider any other way to restrict his freedom. Besides, the involvement in the crimes, imputed to Beshkurov, was not established by the court, Buberd Maremov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He also added that he intends to obtain an order to conduct a ballistic and chemical examination of the firearm (a pistol was found in the place of Beshkurov's detention, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), as well as ask experts to answer the questions of the defence.
According to Maremov, Islam Beshkurov, is currently kept in the SIZO (pre-trial prison).
