In Zugdidi, refugees hold protest action

At night on January 4, refugees living in the building of the former polytechnic college in the Georgian city of Zugdidi held a protest action. They demanded to cancel the order for their eviction. They blocked the road for several minutes; however, they cleared it after the arrival of the patrol police.

According to the protesters' story, the Ministry of Economy of Georgia, on whose balance sheet the college building is listed, accuses them of infliction of damage to the building and equipment located there. In response to the claims of the Ministry, the refugees state that the building was in poor condition and that the equipment had been damaged prior to their arrival. Besides, they are asked to leave the building till January 7; however, they have nowhere to go, and they are not able to pay for the rent.

The refugees blocked the road for several minutes; however, they cleared it after the arrival of the patrol police, the "Medianews" reports.

Representatives of the authorities have offered the refugees the alternative accommodations in three villages in the municipality of Zugdidi the villages of Kakhati, Chkaduashi, and Oktomberi, the "Georgia Online" reports.
