PFPA activists complain of being attacked by unidentified persons in Lenkoran
On 9 June, in the city of Lenkoran, 200 km to the south of Baku, a group of leaders of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) was attacked. The car, in which they arrived in the city for a meeting of the local branch of the PPFA was damaged, the activists also suffered and the meeting was disrupted.
According to Fuad Gakhramanly, the deputy chairman of the PFPA, he and the members of the Supreme Majlis of the Party Asif Yusifli and Mansum Bairamov arrived in Lenkoran at about 1:00 p.m. to hold a meeting. However, at the entrance to the city they were blocked by a truck.
When Bairamov tried to turn around and go the other way, about 50-60 locals appeared on the road; they began throwing stones and eggs at the car and beat it with iron rods and wooden clubs, Mr Gakhramanly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He is convinced that the attack on the PFPA activists was a pre-planned action of the authorities.
A special statement of the PFPA notes with alarm in the context of the events in Lenkoran that "the risks of political activities in the country have reached a dangerous threshold."
Mansur Bairamov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that should the case was not investigated and the perpetrators were not installed, he can file a complaint against the police inaction.
The press service of the MIA refused from comments, citing a lack of information.
Let us note here that earlier there were attacks on oppositionists in Lenkoran.
