Lawyers stop striking in Armenia
The two-day strike of lawyers against non-transparent of the Armenia Court of Cassation (CoC) is over today, said the lawyer Sona Margaryan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that lawyers' strike on June 10 and 11 was more than 200 persons strong, and that Armenian lawyers protested against the arbitrary application of the law by the CoC.
So far, the CoC has not expressed its attitude to the lawyers' strike, Sona Margaryan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, noting that the lawyers expect to receive a response from higher authorities, in particular, from the Ministry of Justice.
According to her story, such reaction from the highest legal authorities to the strike should be expected "in the next day or two."
Meanwhile, on June 10 the Armenian Bar Association announced that it did not support the strike. The Bar leaders have recognized the presence of many problems in the judicial system, but noted that a separate protest action of a group of lawyers can only harm the activities of the Bar in its struggle for changing the law, the "Epress.am" reports.
