In Chechnya, price of bread rises sharply

In Chechnya, the sharp rise in prices for bakery products occurred. Residents of the republic claim that they expect one more increase of prices in the coming days, and they believe that there are no reasons for the rise in price of bread.

"On January 3, at the market 'Berkat', the price for a loaf of bread of local production rose to 20 roubles instead of the preceding price of 15 roubles. Meanwhile, sellers say that in the coming days, the price can grow by more three roubles. If that happens, it turns out that in total, the price of bread will rise by 50 per cent. I do not understand why the institutions to control prices are doing nothing," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Aminat R., a resident of Grozny.

A staff member of one of the Ministries of the republic who preferred to remain anonymous believes that the quality of bakery products fails to meet the stated price.

In his interview to the "Caucasian Knot", a staff member of the Ministry of Agriculture of Chechnya stated that the increase in prices for bakery products could not be avoided. "Last year, the republic has lost nearly a third of the grain harvest. The republic import flour mainly from neighbouring regions, and when wholesalers raise the price of flour, local sellers also have to raise prices."
