Rubezhansky: law enforcement officers in Sochi impounded the database of “Mestnaya” newspaper
Oleg Rubezhansky, Director and owner of “Mestnaya” (“Local”) newspaper in Sochi, reported search in the newspaper’s office, impounding computers used for makeup of the paper and a written undertaking not to leave the place taken from him in connection with investigation on a case of copyright abuse. He associates these events with his criticism of the authorities in the newspaper. The policemen confirm investigation within the framework of the criminal case but decline comment on its progress.
Oleg Rubezhansky reported being prosecuted by the police for publishing “Mestnaya” newspaper criticizing the authorities on June, 11, during a round table conference in the paper’s office in Gorky street of Sochi.
He associates this criminal prosecution with critical materials concerning local and regional administration published in “Mestnaya” newspaper.
Oleg Rubezhazansky’s attorney Marina Bystritskaya says that she has not yet had an opportunity to study the materials of the case. “But we suspect the investigation of self-interest and partiality in starting criminal proceedings against Rubezhazansky for his professional activities and publishing “Mestnaya” newspaper”, the lawyer said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
