Mamuka Areshidze: the persons suspected of preparing an act of terror in Georgia possibly involved in the events in Lopota
Natives of Northern Caucasus detained for accusation of preparing an act of terror in Georgia might have been involved in the events in Lopota gorge in August of 2012, Director of the Caucasian Center of strategic research Mamuka Areshidze claims.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs of Georgia reported prevention of a terrorist act in Tbilisi on June, 13. Mikail Kadiev and Rizvan Omarov detained for suspicion of preparing the act of terror are natives of Dagestan. They came to Georgia thanks to local security services, TV channel “Imedi” referring to Head of the Foundation of Integration of the people of the Caucasus, member of Chechen community in Georgia Umar Idogov, reports.
“They are supposedly involved in the operation in Lapankuri”, Umar Idogov said.
Director of the Caucasian Center Mamuka Areshidze did not rule out that Russia’s GRU was involved in organization of the criminal group annihilated in the neighbourhood of Lapankuri. However, Areshidze has no ultimate version of what happened in Lapankuri. “Everything is interwoven in such cases, it is difficult to make clear who pursues which interests”, he added.
Ex-Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs of Georgia Giorgi Lortkipanidze denies the detainees’ involvement in the events in Lopota.
