Krasnodar: court allows Mikhail Savva's wife to defend him
On June 17, the Krasnodar Territorial Court considered the complaint lodged by the advocates of the arrested Professor Mikhail Savva to the ruling of the district court to extend his custody. The Court upheld the ruling finding the decision of the Oktiabrskiy District Court to be lawful and justified.
The session also considered a motion to recognize Mikhail Savva's wife Elena his defender along with professional advocates, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The court granted the motion.
Meanwhile, on June 17, the "Union of Solidarity with Political Prisoners" circulated a statement about recognition of Mikhail Savva to be a political prisoner. According to activists of the Union, the case of the Krasnodar rights defender has to do with the campaign launched in March 2013 inRussia against non-profit organizations (NPOs), since shortly before his arrest Professor Savva had criticized the actions of the police, who carried out checks of the NPOs active in the KrasnodarTerritory.
