Ibragimbekov, potential oppositional presidential candidate seeking support in the USA, Europe, Russia and Turkey

Rustam Ibragimbekov, the chairman of the recently established oppositional National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan, has held a series of meetings in Washington, where, according to his story, he discussed the issues of reforming the political system of Azerbaijan and the upcoming presidential elections.

"During the talks we discussed the issues of the 2013 presidential elections, the ways to return the constitutional right to form power back to the Azerbaijani people, and the expansion of democratic processes in the country and the US role in this matter," said Ibragimbekov in his open address to the members of the NCDF.

According to his story, he noted during his meetings in the United States that in Azerbaijan "corruption that reigned for many years, briberies and the policy of total repression have weakened but failed to break the people's faith in democracy and their will to fight." According to the head of the NCDF, "with the real US support people's hopes may regain strength."

Next, Ibragimbekov plans to go to Europe, Russia and Turkey.
