In Volgograd Region, motor rally against nickel development near Khopyor River ended with a meeting in Uryupinsk

A meeting held in the city of Uryupinsk, Volgograd Region, has crowned the motor rally organized by activists of the Stalingrad Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) against nickel developments on the Khopyor River, Ekaterina Pechenova, the press secretary of the above Regional Committee, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She added that the meeting was held on June 17 in the city park of Uryupinsk and was about 50 persons strong.

Let us remind you that the information about the future developments of nickel deposits near the KhopyorRiver had sparked a mass protest among residents of the neighbouring Volgograd and Voronezh Regions, who started regular protest actions.

In August, CPRF activists are planning to raft down the KhopyorRiver, said Nikolai Parshin, the leader of the CPRF faction in the Volgograd Regional Duma, who took part in the actions.

According to Ms Pechenova, Alexander Titov, the ataman of the national-cultural autonomy of Cossacks in Uryupinsk, said that Cossacks were also preparing an "anti-nickel" rally to be held in the city of Novokhopyorsk, Voronezh Region, on June 22.
