In Georgia, Irakli Okruashvili released on bail right in courtroom

The Court has changed the restriction measure to Irakli Okruashvili, ex-Minister of Defence of Georgia, to release on bail of 15,000 laris (about 9000 US dollars) and released him in the courtroom.

Today, the Tbilisi Court considered the case on criminal negligence in the acquisition by the Ministry of Defence of poor-quality ammunition through the company "Mevel Corporation" in the period, when the Ministry was headed by Irakli Okruashvili.

Yet prior to the trial, the Chief Prosecutor's Office asked the judge to change the restriction measure in the form of detention to release on bail of 15,000 laris. The judge has granted the prosecutors' motion, and Irakli Okruashvili was released in the courtroom, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"The examination has revealed that the ammunition purchased during the period when Irakli Okruashvili headed the Ministry of Defence was fit and was successfully used for shooting. The ammunition, to which the complaints were received, was purchased when Irakli Okruashvili did not head the Ministry," stated Zviad Kordzadze, advocate of Irakli Okruashvili.

In the course of the trial on charges of office negligence, Irakli Okruashvili was acquitted. Judge Zurab Esebua found him not guilty of acquisition of poor-quality ammunition.
