Law enforcers look for missing local in Chechnya

In the morning of January 13, a resident of the foothill Urus-Martan District of Chechnya disappeared in the mountainous and forested area near the administrative border with Ingushetia when he gathered wild garlic.

"A collector of wild garlic, a 54-year-old unemployed resident of the village of Gekhi of the Urus-Martan District, disappeared between the village of Bamut of the Achhoi-Martan District of Chechnya and the village of Arshty of the Sunzha District of Ingushetia. In the morning of January 13, together with several other villagers, he went to collect wild garlic in the forest massive near the village of Bamut; then, he delayed and appeared behind the group and apparently got lost," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by a source at the law enforcement bodies of Chechnya.

The rescue operations involve dog specialists with dogs. Besides, at the request of the Chechen side, staff member of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Ingushetia are also engaged in searching for the disappeared resident of the village of Gekhi.

During the period starting from January till March, collection of wild garlic (Allium ursinum) traditionally represents one of the main earnings for low-income residents of the foothill and mountainous villages of Chechnya. Today, at the market in Grozny, the prices for wild garlic starts from 230 roubles per kilogram.
