Representatives of the Lezghian autonomy are concerned about the news of one more transfer of Dagestani lands to Azerbaijan

Russia will transfer two big pastures in the territory of Dagestan to Azerbaijan. This was recently discussed at a session of joint Russian-Azerbaijani committee for demarcation of state border in Moscow, Chairman of Executive Committee of Federal Lezghian national and cultural autonomy (FLNCA) Amil Sarkarov reported. According to him, several thousand people live in the settlements left without pastures and now they have nowhere to graze cattle.

It should be reminded that on September, 3, 2010, Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia of that time, and Head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev signed several documents, among them an agreement on the state border. This January, Head of Azerbaijani State Committee of land and cartography Garib Mamedov reported that demarcation of the border with Russia would be beginning soon. According to him, the greater part of Azerbaijani-Russian border making 284 kilometers has already been coordinated between the parties and all the necessary spade-work for demarcation of the border has been done.

Russia’s property of the disputable areas is confirmed by the State Act of perpetual tenure of collective farms issued to agricultural artel named after Stalin in the settlement of Kara-Kiure in 1952, Amil Sarkarov says. However, according to him, the officials did not take these documents into account referring to their absence in special state archives.

Both the Russian and the Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs declined comment to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
