The court on the case of ex-Deputy Mayor of Novocherkassk Zhuravlev starts interrogation of the witnesses for the defense
On June, 20, the court on the case of ex-Deputy Mayor of Novocherkassk, Rostov region, Vladislav Zhuravlev will start interrogation of the witnesses for the defense. This decision was taken by Chief justice on the case Nicolay Egorov during the session on June, 18, Vladislav Zhuravlev told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that according to the investigation’s version, ex-Deputy Mayor of Novocherkassk made negative utterances concerning national diasporas of Rostov region during a gathering of the Cossacks in the stanitsa of Sredniaya on June, 16, 2010. A charge of fomentation of inter-ethnic animosity with the use of his official position was brought against him. Vladislav Zhuravlev denies making utterances of this kind. A number of experts agree on the opinion that the case is politically motivated.
A witness for the prosecution was interrogated during the last session of Novocherkassk city court on June, 18. According to Vladislav Zhuravlev, it was the last of the witnesses found and claimed for giving evidence, therefore, hearing of the witnesses for the defense among whom there are a number of Cossacks of the stanitsa of Sredniaya present at that gathering would start on June, 20.
