A canvassing campaign before the presidential election of 2013 started in Armenia

Today a canvassing campaign before the presidential election of 2013 officially started in Armenia. Eight candidates registered by Central Election Committee are participating.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that the election would be held on February, 18.

The following persons will strive for presidency: incumbent President of the country Sergz Sargsyan, candidate from the ruling Republican party of Armenia; Raffi Ovanissyan, Chairman of “Nasledie” party; Grant Bagratyan, Head of “Svoboda” party, ex-Prime Minister of Armenia; Arman Melikyan, policy adviser of civil network community “Refugees and International law”, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh; Paruir Airikyan, Leader of association “National self-determination”; Aram Arutiunyan, Leader of “Social Accord” association; Vardan Sedrakyan, nonpartisan, and Andreas Gukasyan, Director of “Radio-Ai”, who refused to participate in pre-election campaign.

Political scientists rule out the probability of a second round of the election, however representatives of “Nasledie” party declared that Leader of this party Raffi Ovanissyan would be Sergz Sargsyan’s rival.

Blogger Kornelij wrote in his blog on the “Caucasian Knot” that web-site iditord, violation map for the present election, was launched before the beginning of the electoral campaign.
