Candidate for presidency of Armenia Paruir Airikyan declared the start of his hunger strike
Today one of the candidates for presidency, leader of “National Self-determination” association Paruir Airikyan, is going to join another candidate for presidency, Director of “Radio-Ai” Andreas Gukasyan, who went on a hunger strike earlier.
Presidential election in Armenia was appointed on February, 18. Eight candidates are participating in the presidential race, among them the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that on January, 15, Andreas Gukasyan issued a statement running that in case of refusal to withdraw the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy from the election he would start an open-ended hunger strike. Central Election Committee of Armenia dismissed Gukasyan’s demand. Since January, 21, Gukasyan has been holding a hunger strike in front of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.
“Today I am joining Andreas Gukasyan and going on a three-day hunger strike but being busy with work I cannot stay beside him all the time and have already told him about it. I offered him that we should both suspend our hunger strike in three days”, Paruir Airikyan said.
