700 people gathered at a meeting with the demand to acknowledge the Cossacks a nation in Rostov-on-Don
On January, 26, about 700 Cossacks held a meeting in Rostov park named after Sobino demanding to acknowledge them a nation. Representatives of Don and Terek Cossacks took part in the action.
It should be reminded that the Cossacks’ meeting in support of their demand to acknowledge them a nation was authorized.
Descendants of the Cossacks from Moscow, Pyatigorsk and other towns also arrived to take part in the action. Some of them were wearing Cossack national attire, the youth had generally ordinary jackets and coats on.
According to the organizers, not everybody came to the meeting because of bad weather. “It was snowing all the night and the routes were snowed in. Therefore, some people were late, others just did not reach the place. In particular, buses with the Cossacks from Moscow came to Rostov only by the end of the meeting”, ataman of Zimovnikovsky yurt Pavel Serikov said.
The speakers demanded to adopt statutory acts to reestablish the status of a nation for the Cossacks and “stop sweeping mass arbitrary determination of non-Cossack population as Cossacks”.
