“United National Movement” refused to take part in public hearings on consideration of a project of amendments to the Constitution of Georgia

Georgian oppositional party “United National Movement” refused to take part in public hearings devoted to consideration of amendments to the Constitution initiated by coalition the “Georgian Dream”.

Ruling coalition the “Georgian Dream” initiated two amendments to the Constitution: on moving the Parliament from Kutaisi to Tbilisi and prohibition to the President of Georgia to form the Government without the Parliament’s approval.

Representatives of “United National Movement” (UNM) party pointed out that the reason for refusal was regular offence the deputies from UNM underwent from activists of the “Georgian Dream”.

In reply representatives of the ruling coalition said that “United National Movement” could have invited their supporters to the hearings but they did not take the chance. A representative of the coalition added that although the opposition was obliged to participate in public hearings its refusal did not result in illegitimacy of the discussions.
