Charges against ex-Prime Minister of Georgia will be brought until June, 24, Prosecutor General declared
An additional charge will be brought against ex-Prime Minister of Georgia, General Secretary of “United National Movement” pro-governmental party Vano Merabishvily who is under arrest for the period of investigation, Prosecutor General Archil Khbilashvili declared on June 22.
Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that Vano Merabishvily was detained on May 21. The same day charges of abuse of authority, bribery of voters and embezzlement were brought against him. He rejected all the charges.
“We are planning to bring a charge on Girgvliani’s case against Merabishvily which will be done in a day or two”, RIA “Novosti” quotes Khbilashvili.
On June 19, Merabishvily was interrogated on the case of Sandro Girgvliani killed in the beginning of June, 2006. According to his attorney of that time Georgy Chiviashvili, his client produced no information on Girgvliani’s case to the investigators.
“During interrogation Merabishvily declared that it made no point for him to produce any information because his prosecution was politically motivated and whatever he said his evidence would be used against him”, IPN quotes Chiviashvili.
