Court in Georgia releases former Deputy Governor of Kakheti on bail of 9000 US dollars

On January 31, the Telavi City Court ruled to release Georgy Sibashvili, the former first deputy of the governor of Kakheti (Eastern Georgia), on bail.

According to the Investigatory Service of the Ministry of Finance, Sibashvili suspected of abuse of power and embezzlement of public funds during the recovery of the region after flooding. On January 30, he was arrested.

According to the court, the bail will make 15,000 laris (about 9000 US dollars), the "News-Georgia" reports.

Sibashvili himself said after the court session that he would appeal against the court ruling. "The prosecution has failed to provide any real evidence of my guilt, and I intend to appeal against the decision of the court," the "Georgia Online" quotes the ex-deputy governor as saying.
