Armenian dentists demand cancellation of amendments to taxation system

Today in Yerevan, a group of dentists has held a protest action against the amendments made in the tax legislation in December 2012.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that such actions were also held on January 14 and 31. Protesters oppose the amendment in taxation of the dentistry, enforced since February 1, according to which dentists will have to pay an additional tax of 60 to 100 thousand drams (from 150 to 250 US dollars) a month.

The today's action held in front of the National Assembly of Armenia was attended by about 30 doctors, who have stated that the authorities intend to monopolize the sphere of dentistry.

The adopted amendments will force many professionals to leave the country, a dentist Alla Amekhikyan said in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot". "I love my Armenia, but now I see no reason to stay here," said the doctor.

Even if the amendments are lifted, some 15-20 percent of dentists will not return to their work, said one of the protesters.
