Georgia: former political prisoners demand to create museum of torture

Today, former political prisoners, released under the law "On Amnesty", met in Georgia and adopted an appeal to the parliament with a number of demands, including creation of a torture museum in Tbilisi in the place of the current prison.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 13 Georgia adopted the law "On Amnesty", which released 190 political prisoners.

The exact number of participants of the meeting is not reported; however, it is known that it was also attended by Ucha Nanuashvili, the Ombudsman of Georgia, Eka Beseliya, the Chair of the Committee on Human Rights, and members of non-governmental organizations, the "Tbilisi Week" reports.

The meeting resulted in an appeal sent to the Georgian parliament, the "Georgia-Online" reports referring to Giya Salukvadze, an ex-political prisoner.

In particular, in the place of Tbilisi Prison No. 1, ex-political prisoners demand to organize a museum of torture, while the prison should preserve its current appearance.

Former political prisoners demanded to ban President Mikhail Saakashvili to speak in parliament with the next report and to prepare documents for submitting Saakashvili to The Hague International Court.
