In Ingushetia, "Mekhk-Khel" collects signatures against bill on right of Russian subjects to change the procedure for electing governors

Activists of the movement "Mekhk-Khel" have organized collection of signatures to a petition addressed to Vladimir Putin, demanding not to sign the bill that would allow the authorities of the republics of Northern Caucasus to cancel direct election of governors.

According to the activists, the people of Ingushetia "treat the outcome of the elections as invalid; and the 'elected' deputies as illegitimate," says the appeal of February 3 posted on the website of the movement.

Because of the corruption, rampant in Ingushetia, the abolition of direct elections would harm the republic and prevent the holding of democratic processes, said Idris Abadiev, the chairman of the regional social movement "Mekhk-Khel".

According to his story, the lists for collecting signatures were distributed among the members of the movement; and the process should be completed within a week. Abadiev also said that currently he was not aware of the number of signatories.
