Protesters in Makhachkala claim Muslims being persecuted by law enforcement bodies

In Makhachkala, participants of the rally claimed arbitrariness of the law enforcement bodies. They adopted a resolution with indication of their claims and intend to send it to the local and federal authorities.

The protest action brought together believers of mosques of the capital of Dagestan; however, the rally was also attended by visitors from the regions and cities of the republic. The venue of the protest action was cordoned off by a large number of policemen, and all persons wishing to attend the rally were invited by law enforcement agents to pass through a metal detector, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Mamatkhan Baisultanov, a resident of Khasavyurt, one of the organizers of the protest action, has explained that the protesters are hoping that their voices will be heard by the new government of Dagestan.

"Our girls are not allowed to study, they are kicked out of the educational institutions because of their hijabs. The books of world famous Islamic scholars are being forbidden, and that is unacceptable," stated Magomed Kartashov, another organizer of the rally.
