Action against mitigating the law "On Occupied Territories" held in Georgia

Today, Tbilisi hosted a protest demanding not to soften the law "On Occupied Territories", which treats South Ossetia and Abkhazia as such.

The protest held in front of the government office was attended by supporters of the incumbent President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili and activists of public organizations.

According to the protesters, amending the law "On Occupied Territories" would entail a weakening of Georgia's position in the global arena and contribute to recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

"Against constant statements of Russian politicians that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states, our government has no moral right to talk about any changes," said Manana Andguladze, one of the organizers of the protest.

"Mitigation of the law negates the very fact of occupation. Nobody is against normal relations – but Russia should simply recognize the territorial integrity of Georgia, like the whole world does," said Teimuraz Zakradze.
