Bus drivers went on a strike in Batumi

Today 350 drivers of municipal buses in Batumi, Adzharia, went on a strike. Their main demand is wage rise.

The participants of the strike said that their salary made 3 lari and 80 tetri (about 2,3 dollars) per hour. They demand to increase it to 4 lari and 50 tetri (about 2,8 dollars).

The participants said that Mayor’s office of Batumi was ready to rise the drivers’ wages but this decision was suppressed by local sakrebulo (legislative assembly). The drivers called for the deputies to support them.

The bus drivers declare that they will not stop their action of protest until their demands are granted, “Tbilisi Week” reports.

There has been no comment from Mayor’s office of Batumi concerning the strike yet.
