Miners of Georgian city of Chiatura stop striking

Workers of mining enterprises of the city of Chiatura stopped their strike after reaching a preliminary agreement with the administration of the company "Georgian Manganese".

When going on strike on February 12, the miners demanded to cancel plans for staff redundancy, increase the number of days-off, pay sick leaves and increase duration of vacation from 28 to 45 days.

According to Malkhaz Tsereteli, a Georgian MP, a memorandum was signed, according to which some of the workers' demands were met, while the rest demands are under negotiations, the "Georgia Online" reports.

In particular, the workers' demand to increase vacation has been fulfilled. The administration has also promised to cancel plans for staff redundancy. As far as increase of wages in concerned, the miners agreed to wait until the end of the year, the "News.ge" reports.
