OSCE observers: presidential election in Armenia was transparent

Upon the results of parliamentary election in Armenia, representatives of observation missions from the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE and CIS announced that the election was open and transparent.

The election of President of Armenia passed in the atmosphere of openness, was competitive and democratic, Head of Observation mission from CIS Sergey Lebedev summed up the results of monitoring.

According to him, the election met both international standards and the legislation of the country, ARMENPRESS reports.

Compared to the previous presidential election, the present one was better from the point of view of observance of democratic freedoms and transparency, Head of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE Tonino Picula said.

However, according to him, the observers registered cases of pressure on government employees and the use of administrative intervention at local levels.

In spite of significant improvement of the level of organizing the election processes, several politicians’ refusal to nominate themselves as candidates at the election took away their actual chance of competition, 1in.am quotes Picula.
