Adviser to "Musavat" head detained in Azerbaijan on suspicion of hooliganism
On June 27, Yadigar Sadygov, an advisor to the chairman of the opposition "Musavat" Party, was detained by police in the city of Lankaran in southern Azerbaijan on suspicion of committing acts of hooliganism. The "Musavat" finds the accusations fabricated and politically motivated.
Sadygov was detained as a suspect on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rashid Kerimov, a resident of Lankaran and a veteran of the Karabakh War, Orkhan Mansurzade, an employee of the press service of the local MIA, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
On the eve of his detention, Sadygov himself told reporters about a provocation against him and his impending detention.
"It's all a lie. Apparently, they fabricate grounds for my arrest. The authorities want to punish me for my political activities," Mr Sadygov told the "Turan" Agency in the context of the appearance in media of Kerimov's statement that Sadygov had attacked him.
Gyulaga Aslanly, the deputy chairman of the "Musavat" Party, in his comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, has also treated the information about the criminal case against Sadygov as a provocation.
