Advocate: inquiry into the case of ex-office manager of president of Azerbaijan is accompanied by ECHR violations

The court in Baku dismissed the complaints of the former office manager of the president of Azerbaijan Akif Muradverdiev, filed by his defence in connection with his freedom restriction, the conducted searches and investigators' refusal to provide information. According to the advocate Fuad Agaev, the court decisions gave sufficient grounds for filing a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

Let us remind you that Akif Muradverdiev was detained in the morning on June 20 by agents of the Ministry of National Security (MNS) at the BakuAirport when trying to fly abroad. He was charged with contraband of ancient gold coins of the Imperial Russia.

On June 27, the Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against his arrest, which the defence considers illegal.

In his comment on the decision of the Court, Agaev said that "there are already enough reasons to complain to the ECtHR about his unlawful arrest." Besides, in connection with the illegal searches we can ask the ECtHR to recognize that Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) had been violated in respect of Muradverdiev.

The MNS refrained from commenting the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal.

Political analysts assert that Muradverdiev's arrest was politically motivated.
