Georgia: parliamentary minority declares political boycott
The parliamentary faction of the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party in Georgia stops its work in the supreme legislative body of the country and starts its political boycott in protest against the detention of senior officials of Tbilisi Mayoralty, said the MP Levan Bezhashvili.
Let us remind you that on June 27, about 30 members of the UNM – the former ruling party of Georgia – were detained by the police. After the interrogation they were released, but states violations of the law by the investigation service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
"This is directly related to the fact that the UNM is under an unprecedented attack. Therefore, we refuse to take part in the parliamentary activities and, given the existing situation, will not take part in consideration of bills," Levan Bezhashvili said at a briefing on June 28.
All the MPs from the UNM have already left the parliament, located in Kutaisi, and headed to Tbilisi, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Mr Bezhashvili has added that further plans of the UNM will be announced later, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
