Azerbaijan: adviser to the head of "Musavat" Party Yadigar Sadygov arrested for two months
On June 29, the Lankaran District Court of Azerbaijan ruled to restrict the freedom of Yadigar Sadygov, an advisor to the head of the oppositional "Musavat" Party, who is accused of hooliganism, by a two-month-long arrest. His defence intends to appeal against the ruling at the appeal instance.
Neimat Kerimli, Yadigar Sadygov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that investigators had failed to present any evidence of his client's guilt.
"The only reason for bringing Sadygov to justice is a complaint of a certain Rashid Kerimov. However, there's no witness' evidence against Yadigar Sadygov," said the lawyer.
Sadygov rejects the charges and says that he is persecuted for political reasons.
Meanwhile, today about 30 supporters of the "Musavat" Party, including the party leadership from Baku, gathered in front of the courthouse.
"Unfortunately, the court has once again followed the political order of the authorities and arrested an absolutely innocent man," the "Turan" quotes Gyulag Aslanly, the deputy chairman of the "Musavat" Party.
