Givi Targamadze arrested in absentia by Basmanny District Court of Moscow

Today, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow has arrested in absentia Givi Targamadze, a Georgian MP. Thus, the Court has granted the motion of the investigating authorities of the Russian Federation that accuse the Georgian politician of preparation for organizing mass riots in Moscow in 2012.

The investigators have motivated the need for pre-trial restriction measure to Givi Targamadze in the form of arrest by the fact that it is the main condition for bringing his data to Interpol, since, earlier, he had already been put on the international wanted list.

The Court considered the arguments of the requesting party as reasonable, and Givi Targamadze was arrested in absentia, despite the objections of the advocate of the politician. The advocate asked the Court to dismiss the motion of the investigators, stating that her client had not been even notified of the trial.

On February 14, Givi Targamadze himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he did not consider himself guilty of the charges against him. He also said that the video record about the preparation for organizing mass riots in Russia was falsified.
