The Chechens who blocked a highway in Dagestan declared their action open-ended
A protest action of Akki Chechens who demand to return them the lands of Novolaksky district is going on. The action of protest is going round-the-clock, its participants told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
It should be reminded that the Chechens residing in Khasavyurt district of Dagestan blocked the highway from Khasavyurt to Novolaksky district. The protesters demanded to return them the lands of Novolaksky (former Aukh) district that belonged to the Chechens until deportation of 1944.
Today about 1500 people participated in the action. According to the participants, the action is going on in an organized way, without disturbance. Volunteers from among the participants of the meeting secure public order together with the police. A chow wagon is organized at the place of the gathering, the people receive hot meals.
Today representatives of local authorities, deputies of the National Assembly and Head of National Council of the Chechens of Dagestan met with the protesters.
According to the participants of the action, the officials and deputies tried to urge the protesters to break up. In their opinion, this meeting was useless and it was decided to continue the action.
