The court in Tbilisi rejected limitation of freedom to Mayor of the city

Today Tbilisi city court refused to specify the form of preventive punishment to Mayor of the city Gigi Ugulava accused of misappropriation of alien property and money laundering.

Consideration of preventive punishment to Gigi Ugulava was appointed for today. General Prosecutor’s office demanded to suspend Ugulava’s authority as Mayor of Tbilisi, deprive him of the right of leaving abroad and insisted on preventive punishment to him in form of a bail of one million lari (about 600 thousand dollars). Ugulava himself called the case initiated against him a “petty revenge”.

During preliminary hearings Tbilisi city court finally decided to dismiss the demand of Public Prosecutor’s office.

“The judgement seems reasonable to me for the prosecution party had no arguments for bringing this kind of charges”, Gigi Ugulava said leaving the building of Tbilisi city court.

In case if the court acknowledges Ugulava guilty on both clauses he may be sentenced to 23 years of custody.
