The convicts on the case of Merekha in Stavropol region appealed against the verdict

Four ex-officers of Predgorny Department of Interior Affairs convicted for torturing Viacheslav Merekha appealed against the verdict to Stavropol regional court, the sufferer’s cousin Natalia Spiridonava reported.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” informed that on December, 15, 2010, the ex-officers of Predgorny Department of Interior Affairs were accused of beating and torturing resident of Kalaborka farm Viacheslav Merekha as a result of which he became disabled. On February, 14, Predgorny district court of Stavropol region sentenced Sergey Petrov, Nikolay Kriazhov, Vadim Ahmedov and Alexey Golovachev to 3 to 6 years of custody.

Lawyers of “Public Verdict” foundation and lawyer Marina Dubrovina representing the sufferer’s interests are also going to raise their objections and strive for increase of penalty terms to the ex-policemen, web-site of “Public Verdict” foundation reports.

The date of consideration of the claims by Stavropol regional court is not yet known.
