Sentencing of ex-deputy police chief of Cherkessk postponed until July 8
The announcement of the verdict to Ruslan Rakhaev, the former deputy police chief of the city of Cherkessk, scheduled for July 1, did not take place. It is expected that the court will announce its decision on July 8 at 2:30 p.m., the Cherkessk City Court has reported.
On June 24, the trial finalized the debates. The prosecutor Arsen Djasheev asked the court to find Rakhaev guilty and sentence him to 13 years of imprisonment in a high security colony. The defence of Rakhaev and he himself did not agree with the conclusions of the state prosecution.
Let us remind you that according to investigators, on October 7, 2011, the former deputy chief of the police of Cherkessk Ruslan Rakhaev beat, with the aim to obtain a confession, the administrative detainee Dakhir Djankezov, as a result of which the latter died. The defendant and his defence argue that Djankezov had been beaten prior to delivering to Rakhaev's office.
Another victim in the case is Khadji Djatdoev, who said in court that he had also been beaten by Rakhaev.
The advocates of Ruslan Rakhaev and Anton Zvyozdkin, a representative of the Fund "Public Verdict", claim that the investigation into the Rakhaev's case was biased; and many important aspects were disregarded; in particular, other versions of the murder of Dakhir Djankezov were not studied; the police strong point was not immediately examined, where all the night on October 7, 2011, six policemen kept Djankezov; and the billing of Rakhaev's telephone calls was not studied.
