The authors of the initiative of renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad submitted 50 thousand signatures to the Kremlin

50 thousand signatures for renaming Volgograd to Stalingrad were submitted to the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Darya Dedova, Press Secretary of “Trade Union of Citizens of Russia”, reported today.

Earlier, the “Caucasian Knot” reported that on November, 19, 2012, an initiative group of citizens organized collection of signatures under a request to Vladimir Putin to rename Volgograd to Stalingrad. Collection of signatures was held within the framework of memorial actions devoted to the 70th anniversary of counter-offensive of the Soviet troops in the battle of Stalingrad.

According to Darya Dedova, the first batch of signatures only was sent the President’s Administration. There are much more signatures but they have not yet come from other regions, web-portal Volgograd Times informs.

According to calculation by Volgograd branch of KPRF party, return of Stalin’s name will take 16 million rubles within five years from the regional budget, “NTV” reports.
