Rights defenders report violations in Ekaterinburg colony, where Tarkhan Kartoev died
The human rights activists engaged in monitoring the Ekaterinburg Colony No. 2, where a resident of Ingushetia Tarkhan Kartoev, convicted on charges of blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train, has recently died, had claims to the work of the facility. The blogosphere and Internet websites, launched to protect prisoners' rights, assert that torture is used in the colony on a regular basis.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 30 Tarkhan Kartoev's father received a telegram from Colony No. 2 of Ekaterinburg, which reported that his son died on June 29. Now, the ICRF is conducting a check on the fact of his death. According to the spokesman of the UFSIN (Department of the Russia's Penitentiary Service), no traces of violent death have been revealed; the inmate died from an acute cardiovascular failure.
The father said that his son had arrived at the Ekaterinburg colony a week ago; and he never complained about his health.
According to the newspaper "Kommersant", the need for a thorough investigation into the death of Tarkhan Kartoev was expressed by Ekaterinburg human rights activists. According to Vyacheslav Bashkov, a member of the Public Oversight Commission of the Sverdlovsk Region, he took part in the monitoring of the above colony on January 3, 2013, which resulted in a list of detected violations and remarks.
So far, the "Caucasian Knot" has no comments of the colony administration on the statements about the admitted violations of human rights.
