Consideration of appeal against verdict in case of Artak Nazaryan's death in Armenia scheduled for July 15

On July 15, inArmenia, the Court of Appeal will consider the appeal filed by representatives of the defendants and the victims in the case on the death of Lieutenant Artak Nazaryan, since they do not agree with the verdict pronounced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 8, the Court sentenced five colleagues of Artak Nazaryan accused of bringing him to suicide to 3-5 years of imprisonment. The convicts plead not guilty, and their relatives, like the family members of the deceased officer, demand to find the real criminals who killed the officer on July 27, 2010.

Tsovinar Nazaryan, successor and sister, and representatives and advocates of the convicts appealed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the verdict. The appeal was accepted for consideration. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Tsovinar Nazaryan, the successor of the deceased officer.

In their appeal, the plaintiffs demand to cancel the verdict of the court of general jurisdiction of the Tavush Region of Armenia and to send the case back for retrial or to change the verdict to acquit the defendants. Besides, they demand to institute criminal charges in connection with the offenses committed in the course of the investigation.

Till present, the "Caucasian Knot" has no comments from the defendants' side on the appeal against the verdict. When delivering accusatory speech on May 15, Prosecutor Arutyun Arutyunyan acknowledged the investigators' version about the suicide of Lieutenant Artak Nazaryan.
