Advocate of persons accused of spying in Nagorno-Karabakh states their innocence
The court session on the espionage case in Nagorno-Karabakh listened to testimonies of the colleagues of the defendant Rafael Avagyan, and of colleagues, relatives and friends of the defendant David Barsegyan. The advocate Eric Beglaryan stated the innocence of his clients and the absence of the subjective attributes of the crime, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Let us remind you that the espionage case was opened in Stepanakert on June 25. The defendants – the residents of Stepanakert Rafael Avagyan and David Barsegyan are students of the "Mesrop Mashtots" University.
The session on July 3 was interrupted by David Barsegyan's epilepsy attack. Prior to the interruption the court questioned 12 witnesses and read testimonies of two others.
Tigran Akopyan, a colleague of Rafael Avagyan, has assured that he had noticed nothing suspicious in Avagyan's actions; they were on good terms; and Avagyan, in his estimate, was a good soldier.
The witness Vahan Avagyan, the chief of staff of the military division, where Rafael Avagyan had served, who is also a relative of the defendant, said that Rafael entered his service on January 4, 2013; he served perfectly and had no remarks.
According to his story, he was aware that Rafael Avagyan was in correspondence with a certain Armenian from Istanbul, who is involved in charity, but he leaned about the fact that this person may be a foreign agent only when he was summoned for questioning to the National Security Service.
At the court session on July 4 the court will continue questioning witnesses.
