Union of Journalists of Dagestan holds rally in memory of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev

Today, at the Union of Journalists of Dagestan, the rally in memory of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, was attended by representatives of media, leaders of civil organizations and friends of the killed journalist. The participants of the action called on the republic's law enforcement bodies and authorities to solve the murder of the journalist as soon as possible.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev was shot dead this morning in Dagestan. The participants of the funeral procession carried the body of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev along the central square of Makhachkala, and the journalist's body was buried in his native village of Karata of the Akhvakh District of Dagestan.

Prior to his murder, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev received threats. His name appeared on the "execution list" printed on the leaflets distributed in September 2009 inMakhachkala; and the anonymous authors of the leaflets promised to take revenge for policemen and civilians.

At the rally in memory of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, held at the Union of Journalists of Dagestan, Umarosman Gadjiev, Minister of Information and Press of Dagestan, said that Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev had always had his own viewpoint.

"Someone could agree or disagree with it; however, this is not a reason for murder. This is not in the human and Islamic traditions," said Umarosman Gadjiev.

After the received threats, relatives and friends repeatedly offered Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev to go abroad; however, he refused to do it. This was stated by Gadjimurad Sagitov, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper "Novoe Delo".

Vsevolod Bogdanov, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia, announced his intention to take control over the investigation into the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev.
