Armenia: Khachpar villagers state long water supply outage
Today, residents of the village of Khachpar, Ararat Region of Armenia, have gathered to a protest action demanding to solve the problem of a long-term absence of water in their houses. Should the outage persist, the villagers will hold a protest in Yerevan, said Kazar Martirosyan, the head of Khachpar.
According to his story, houses of several streets of Khachpar have no water for several days.
The head of the village has added that the bosses of "Armvodokanal" (Armenian Water and Sewage) and Edik Barsegyan, the governor of the Ararat Region, had been informed about the problem; they are taking steps to identify the reason; however, so far, it has not been precisely defined, the "News.am" reports.
So far, no comments have arrived from the "Armvodokanal" and administration of the Ararat Region about the situation in Khachpar.
Let us note here that the Ararat Region has about 700 illegal wells, due to which the level of the groundwater in the Ararat Valley goes down, Tigran Sarkisyan, the Armenian Prime Minister, said on July 10.
In this regard, the government has decided to establish fees for the use of deep groundwater at the rate of 15 drams (1.2 Russian roubles) per cubic meter, and 5 drams (0.4 roubles) per cubic meter of surface water.
