Akhmednabiev's advocate challenges refusal of prosecutor's office to open case on attempt on journalist
Today, Abdurashid Sheikhov, the advocate of the assassinated "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, has filed a complaint against the actions of the prosecutor's office of the Kirov District of Makhachkala, which had refused to initiate a criminal case on the attempt to kill the journalist committed this January.
The advocate is sure that both crimes – the attack in January on the journalist and his murder on July 9 are interconnected. "The timely investigative actions could have stopped the criminals. Moreover, Akhmednabiev was denied the opportunity to ask for protecting, since the case was initiated only on the damage to his car and on storage of firearms," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the office of the Presidium of the Republic's Supreme Court that the cassation statement of the prosecutor's office was handed over on July 9 to Judge Musaev, who is running the case.
Requalification of the article could have hardly saved the life of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, said his cousin Mutalim Khaibulaev.
"Those who killed him could not be frightened by articles. Nothing could stop them," Khaibulaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. To prove his point of view, he cited the receipt by the journalist of several SMS-messages with threats.
According to his, his cousin has left three children – two daughters, the youngest of which is 17 years old, and a son.
