In Paris and Saint Petersburg, protesters demand to solve Natalia Estemirova's murder
On July 15, Paris and Saint Petersburg held actions to pay tribute to the memory of Natalia Estemirova, and participants of the actions demanded that the Russian authorities should take immediate steps to solve the murder of the human rights activist.
In Saint Petersburg, solo pickets were held on Nevsky Avenue. It was attended by 15 persons, including representatives and activists of the social human rights organization "House of Peace and Non-violence", the Regional Branch of the "Yabloko" Party, and staff members of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
The picketers demanded to provide the public with the results of the investigation into the murder of Natalia Estemirova. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Elena Vilenskaya, Chairperson of the human rights organization "House of Peace and Non-Violence".
Elena Vilenskaya believes that the information on the murder of Natalia Estemirova announced on July 15 by a representative of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) "produces a feeling of depression".
"This version contains no changes. Silence lasts for a year, and on the anniversary, we are to listen to the old version, which does not inspire any confidence," Elena Vilenskaya has said.
In Paris, the action dedicated to Natalia Estemirova, was held in Igor Stravinsky Square, near the Centre Georges Pompidou. It was organized by the association "Reporters Without Borders" (RWB), "Russie-Libertés", the "Amnesty International" (AI), the "International Federation for Human Rights" (FIDH), the "International League for Human Rights" (LDH), the "Association of Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT), the Chechen Committee, and the "Convoi Sydnical".
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Alexandra Kulaeva, the head of the Eastern European Office of the "International Federation for Human Rights" (FIDH), in total, 50-60 persons took part in the action.
